In which sports and activities did you participate in college?
I was on the college ski team and national ski patrol, was a ski instructor and first aid instructor, a breakfast cook, and political activist.

What attracted you to KSA?
KSA’s depth of retail industry focus and the opportunity to work with a very strong cross-functional team (strategy, process, technology) on projects with industry-leading retail and consumer products companies attracted me to the firm. KSA’s reputation as one of the top consulting firms in the world was a factor as well.

Do you have any interview tips for college recruits?
Listen first, think second, and speak third. Know what you want to say and be articulate. Practice thinking on your feet and speaking your thoughts clearly.

How has consulting been different than you anticipated?
The challenge of work-life balance is ongoing, but the opportunity to really make a difference for clients, while finding a way to meet and exceed the expectations of my family, friends, and community is one I wouldn’t trade for another career.

What has been most surprising about this career choice?
While many of our projects are similar in scope, the variability of work effort and client relationships keeps me from ever feeling like I am doing the same project twice. Each project is more interesting than the last. I had feared it might grow old eventually, but it hasn’t.

What has been your favorite client project to date?
My favorite project to date has been transforming an $80 billion dollar retailer’s entire supply chain. It involves a large KSA/client team and has presented every hurdle you can imagine, and many you cannot. The sense of accomplishment will be incredible once all is said and done.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned at KSA?
Relationship, relationships, relationships are by far the most important thing to work on at every step of a consulting career. The ability to build and maintain them over the years dictates whether or not you will be a successful consultant.

What were your goals when you started at KSA? Have you met them?
I am always looking for the next challenge, so in that sense I will never meet my goals (moving target). Continuous learning is the real long-term career goal, and I try to meet it every chance I can. My personal goal is my son’s success in life, and I work on that every day too.

Tell us something about yourself that people would never guess.
I have worked with kids my whole life — first those belonging to others, and now my own son, along with special needs kids in Metro-Atlanta. I am very passionate about the causes related to children with special needs. Our firm and community cannot do enough to help others. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a firm like KSA, and we have an obligation to share that good fortune.
