Name: Verena

Position: Consultant

Office location: Düsseldorf

Year joined KSA: 2007

In which sports and activities did you participate in college?
I participated in ballroom dancing, ballet, cultural activities, and cross-cultural discussion groups.

What differentiated KSA from other firms with which you may have interviewed?
Because I had done an internship with KSA during university, KSA was the only company with which I wanted to work. It really was the KSA people themselves, the great working atmosphere, and the many opportunities to work on fascinating projects that made KSA my first choice.

What attracted you to KSA?
KSA’s expertise and industry focus are what caught my eye. However, KSA’s attractive client portfolio, the possibility of working in different countries with colleagues with different functional focus, and KSA’s repeatedly winning in its category in the German “Hidden Champions” study on consulting firms made my choice even easier. Most importantly, though, I just loved my internship with KSA!

Do you have any interview tips for college recruits?
Be yourself!

How has consulting been different than you anticipated?
I did not expect the working atmosphere to be as cooperative as it is at KSA. Many colleagues have become friends, and I am able to learn from their vast experience and expertise every day, both professionally and personally.

What has been most surprising about this career choice?
Working with the same client for several months has actually been a surprise. I had anticipated working on a new project every four moths or so, but in reality, I have been working with one client for almost a year – gaining in-depth knowledge of its challenges and helping it successfully meet them.

What has been your favorite client project to date?
My current client – of course.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned at KSA?
Approach any challenges as opportunities.

What were your goals when you started at KSA? Have you met them?
When I started working with KSA, my goal was to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible. I still try to meet that goal every day. Being with clients is always very exciting and there is always something new to learn about the business, the company, the people – and yourself.

Tell us something about yourself that people would never guess.
A woman needs some secrets, too….
