The hot streak in restaurant spending may cool in the coming summer months, according to Kurt Salmon’s Restaurant Spending Trajectory.

“On the heels of rising consumer sentiment, spending has been steadily climbing for the past 10 months, so it makes sense that it would settle into a more sustainable pace,” said restaurant strategist Todd Hooper. “In April, we saw the confidence levels of high- and low-income consumers diverge more than we’ve seen since before the recession. This means that value-focused restaurants may need to keep a tight lid on prices for the time being.”
