Restaurant spending’s recovery may be interrupted in the coming months, according to Kurt Salmon’s proprietary analysis.

“Higher gas prices and glacial new job growth will cause many consumers to cut out or cut back on one or two restaurant visits a month as an easy way to save money,” said retail and restaurant strategist Todd Hooper. “We expect the spending of lower- and middle-income, budget-conscious consumers—who frequent quick-service and lower-tier full-service restaurants—to fall and be only partially offset by higher spending by more economically secure consumers.”
