Bolstered by three straight months of improving consumer sentiment, Americans are expected to dine out more this autumn, according to Kurt Salmon’s Restaurant Spending Trajectory.

“Consumer sentiment has returned to an upward trajectory. This translated to increased restaurant sales in July—a trend we expect to continue in the months ahead,” said retail and restaurant strategist Todd Hooper. “Absent some really bad economic news, we expect consumers to continue to slowly expand the role of foodservice in their everyday lives. Even as food costs rise this year, total spending will likely rise as well, though consumers will shift toward more affordable options.”
