Many designers are going to market this fall with lower-priced exotic handbags and shoes, according to a Women’s Wear Daily article. In the article, Kurt Salmon retail strategist Alison Jatlow Levy said these items represented a new “modern luxury category,” born of the revival of consumer spending. “The consumer is coming back, and [brands] can shift away from the value proposition and offer something that’s more unique and exciting,” she said. “We believe consumers will pay more, and brands can [sell these products] at $800 to $1,000. A lot of designers see this as a white space. People stayed very high or went very low.”
