In an effort to take on Amazon, Wal-Mart is promising same-day delivery for online orders in some cities, according to the Wall Street Journal. But though the move will improve the customer experience, it will come at a price, says Kurt Salmon retail strategist Al Sambar. “It can be three to four times the cost for the retailer to pick items and pack them from a store versus having a really efficient, automated process back in a distribution center,” he said in the article.
