Last January, many retailers were surprised by the high number of holiday gift returns. As the holiday season comes to a close and people begin returning gifts, Steve Osburn, retail strategist at Kurt Salmon, explains to The Wall Street Journal that as much as 70% of the returned merchandise could be suitable for resale. Osburn adds that about 45% of retailers now offer free returns, according to findings from Kurt Salmon’s Holiday Shipping Study.
