“The time is right for Costco,” said Yves Marin, retail expert from Kurt Salmon in Paris, speaking with The Seattle Times about the possibility of Costco Wholesale opening its first warehouse in France. The new location would mark Costco’s expansion into a third European nation, adding to the company’s existing presence in the United Kingdom and Spain. “It begins to look like a European network,” Marin adds. Costco’s global heft means more leverage with suppliers, and its limited offerings could lend the business an operational advantage. “The traditional hypermarkets are nervous,” Marin concludes.
