“The DaVitas of this world are thinking about this in the right way. They’re now able to spread their risk over a larger patient population,” said Farzan Bharucha, health care expert at Kurt Salmon, in a conversation with Modern Healthcare around recent M&A activity between two large kidney-care providers: DaVita HealthCare Partners’ acquisition of Colorado-based Renal Ventures and U.S. Renal Care’s acquisition of DSI Renal of Nashville.

Discussing DaVita specifically, Bharucha also notes that the deal provides additional negotiating clout and also allows the provider to operate more cost-effectively.
