After a century of success as a supplier to some of the world’s biggest retailers, Li & Fung is now under threat as retailers increasingly work directly with factories, according to a Wall Street Journal article. In the article, Kurt Salmon retail strategist Peter Brown said the move wasn’t unusual, adding that as retailers grow, they often turn to direct sourcing to boost profits. Direct sourcing is also appealing because it helps retailers design, manufacture and get products into stores quickly, he said.
