Strong July comps, albeit often as a result of heavy discounting, may signal the return of the resilient consumer, according to a Reuters article. “The consumer has decided to shake off the bad news and is stocking up for back to school,” said Kurt Salmon retail strategist Madison Riley in the article. “All retailers are looking at the second half with caution, so you want to bring in freshness as soon as you can.”
