Consumer spending at restaurants may drop slightly heading into January, according to Kurt Salmon’s Restaurant Spending Trajectory.

“When all is said and done, 2012 will be a very strong year for restaurant sales, despite a soft October,” said restaurant strategist Todd Hooper. “As we finish 2012 and head into the New Year, however, industry prospects are clouded. Uncertainties about fiscal policy and governance broadly are contributing to waning consumer sentiment. If our leaders in Washington address these issues effectively and quickly, 2013 can be another banner year for restaurants.”
