UPS maintained near constant communication with one large retailer over Christmas week as package volume came in slightly lower than expected, Steve Osburn, retail strategist at Kurt Salmon explains to The Wall Street Journal. “UPS is managing this almost at the package level,” Osburn said, to reallocate any extra space. But with some retailers’ shipping volume capped at agreed-upon numbers, and others left holding some packages, “the discussion will go on for weeks as to who is responsible,” Osburn added.
