As hospitals shift to value-based care and an environment where they are rewarded for keeping people healthy, flexible design has become top of mind for hospital executives, David Chamberlain, a health care expert at Kurt Salmon, explains to Inside ASHE. “Health care organizations are trying to retool a very hospital-centric infrastructure to meet the goals of health care reform,” explains Chamberlain. “That challenges folks to think about the most appropriate place of care and invest in the least intensity possible. Flexibility starts with really planning those strategies so we’re not overbuilding to begin with.”
